Overview

Handwritten Studio is a handwriting and note-taking app. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

Data Storage

All your documents, notes, and drawings are stored locally on your device by default. We do not have access to your local content.

Cloud Sync (Optional)

If you choose to enable Cloud Sync (a paid subscription feature), the following data is stored on our servers via Google Firebase:

Your document metadata (titles, dates, folder structure)
Your document content (pages, strokes, notes, images, imported PDFs)
Your Google account email address (for authentication)
Your subscription status

Cloud-synced data is stored in your personal account and is not shared with other users. You can disable sync and convert to local-only storage at any time from the app's settings.

Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive basic account information from Google, such as your name, email address, account identifier, and profile picture if provided. This information is used solely for authentication and displaying your account in the app.

In-App Purchases

Subscription purchases are processed by Google Play or Apple App Store. We validate purchase receipts with the respective store, including through our backend services, to verify your subscription status. We do not store your payment information.

Usage Analytics

To understand which features are useful and to find bugs, we collect pseudonymous or aggregate usage analytics via Firebase Analytics (Google) in release builds. This data is not linked to your name, email, account, or the content of your documents. We collect:

Which screens you open and how often
Which features you interact with (e.g. opening a document, exporting a PDF, adding a sticky note)
App crashes and performance issues
Anonymous device info: device model, operating system version, app version, language, and approximate country (derived from your IP address)
A random app-instance identifier that resets if you uninstall the app

The data is used solely to help us prioritize features and fix problems.

Crash Reports

We use Firebase Crashlytics (Google) in release builds to help diagnose crashes and serious errors. Crash reports may include stack traces, app logs, device model, operating system version, app version, and other technical details needed to understand what went wrong. Crash reports do not include the content of your documents.

What We Don't Collect

The content of your documents, unless you've enabled Cloud Sync (see above)
Precise location data
Contacts or other personal data from your device
Advertising identifiers — we don't run ads or share data with advertisers

Firebase App Check (Google) — Used to verify app authenticity
Firebase Analytics (Google) — Used for anonymous usage analytics
Firebase Crashlytics (Google) — Used for crash reporting and diagnostics
Cloud Functions / backend services — Used for subscription receipt validation and account-related service operations
Google Play / Apple App Store — Used for subscription purchases

Children's Privacy

Handwritten Studio does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.

Data Deletion

You can delete individual synced documents in the app. You can also convert to local-only storage to stop future sync for your documents while keeping local copies on your device. To request deletion of your account data or remaining cloud data, contact us at the email below or use the data deletion pages linked from our website.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
